How Immigration Made America

The first colony in modern-day America was founded by British immigrants. They came in search for a better life and religious freedom. Immigration is at the heart of what it means to be an American. Here are some examples why:
During the Revolutionary War, food for American troops was low. A Spanish rancher in Texas was determined to solve the problem. So he came up with the idea of using rope to ranch cattle and buffaloes. He caught over 30 million wild cattle to feed the American troops. As a result, the Americans won the war. Then, when Kansas was made a state, it was all barren. Farmers from Ukraine were just coming to the states, and they brought a seed which grew wheat. A man came to Kansas and planted the seed. With proper care, the seed made that region the breadbasket of America. Around 1880 to 1900, many people of Polish and Italian descent settled in Pittsburgh. For the next 80 years, they made steel that was used to build railroad, bridges, buildings, pipes, weapons and homes. These immigrants and lot of other ethnic groups helped make America what it is today.
