A company in Japan has invented a medicine which kills the flu virus in one day. The company, Shinogi and Co. said the average it took for the medication to act was 24 hours. Compared to Tamiflu, you only have to take it once; you have to take 2 doses of Tamiflu a day for 5 days. Shinogi is applying for FDA approval this summer. Here is how it works: when the flu invades the body, it attacks a cell. It tricks the cell into producing virulent content, thus spreading across the body via bloodstream. Most flu medications let the virus attack the cell. Then, they try to contain the virulent content from coming out. Some of the virus escapes, so the medicine only slows the infection that is spreading. However, Shinogi's medicine works differently. It prevents the virus from entering the cell, thus stopping the infection almost immediately. This medicine could prevent many deaths from occurring next year from the flu or its complications. It is most likely to be available in pharmacies by next flu season. Currently, Tamiflu and Shinogi are conducting trials globally.
