Taxes: Where Is All The Money Going?

Unemployment is at the lowest levels in decades, majority of us are working for 40 hours per week and close to 200 hours per month. However, the blue piece of paper which is also known as a paycheck that we receive at the the end of the month is disappointing. Government takes a major chunk of our hard earned money in the garb of taxes. It is but natural that we want to know where your greenbacks are being spent. The annual tax revenue for the IRS is over 4 trillion dollars. Majority of the money is being spent on Medicaid, Medicare and Social Security. A fifth of all taxpayer money is spent on national defense and foreign affairs. So, instead of putting that 20% into reconstructing the broken down infrastructure system, or updating our school curriculums, our government is using the money to pay off the national debt which they caused themselves. Another large flaw in this idea is take money from hard-working, honest people and give to people who do not want to work and live off welfare checks. A small portion of the money goes to deserving underprivileged families, while the majority to people who cannot hold a job and survive on welfare checks funded by our hard work. This is money that we could have used for something good for your family or community but is being used to pay for someone who doesn't want to work and make a living off of your hard work. That sounds like a Robin Hood idea to me. We live in a great country where anything is possible with some hard work and dedication. People should not be penalized for living the American Dream, which is to come from nothing and make a better life for themselves and their families. Anyone who can physically work without medical consequences should not receive welfare checks from our government. A solution to this problem is to send a report to each taxpayer, stating how their money was spent. Another way to solve this problem is for each congressional district to receive a portion of the taxpayer money, and then have the people vote on how they want their taxpayer dollars to be spent in their area. Either way, we need to solve this impending issue. The national debt is increasing, our infrastructure is crumbling, and our education system is outdated. This could lead to a sharp increase in the amount of taxes that we pay, further escalating the divide on this issue between left and right. If we can use our money on the right issues, then our country truly would be the number one country in the world.
